The Background

Blackstone Valley Community Health Care, Inc. is a federally qualified, JCAHO-accredited health center. It provides a full range of services in pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, midwifery and OB/GYN, as well as dental and behavioral health services. The center’s goal is to provide the highest quality, lowest cost health care possible to the patients in its community.

Blackstone is frequently required to bill Medicare and Medicaid transactions differently because of government funding for the uninsured and/or under-insured. Prior to ViaTrack, Blackstone’s tedious processing system required printing every claim and saving to floppy discs without clearinghouse support.

When submitting claims for local Rhode Island Medicaid, Blackstone is required to provide specific information in the 837 that could not generated from the practice management system. With a custom edit in place, ViaTrack was able to create a payers accepted claim file. “I didn’t even know a clearinghouse would do that.” says Corrine Robinson, Billing Manager at Blackstone. Corrine also appreciates the patient search, “I love that under a patient search, you can see the whole ‘shebang’ on one screen… That is very convenient.”
